A teenager who died after falling from a building in Sharjah is believed to have taken his own life, police said.

The Jordanian boy fell from a sixth floor apartment in the Qasimia area of Sharjah city on Saturday.

Brigadier Ibraheem Al Ajel from Sharjah Police said they do not believe the fall was an accident.

“Initial investigations revealed the 16-year-old boy was receiving treatment at one of the hospitals for some time now because he was suffering from psychological disorders,” the officer said.

The teen’s father provided medical reports confirming his son’s illness, he said.

Police received a report of the incident from passers-by who saw the boy’s body hitting the ground.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Kuwaiti Hospital.
