Two of the country’s police forces combined to foil an attempt to smuggle Dh500,000 worth of gold jewellery out of the country by a maid who had stolen from an Arab family’s home in Sharjah where she worked part-time.

The Criminal Investigation Department at Sharjah Police, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police, apprehended the maid, an illegal immigrant from Ethiopia, in Al Ain where she was preparing to leave the country, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.

The stolen jewellery was found in her possession. The case was referred to public prosecution, Sharjah Police said.

Sharjah Police urged people to refrain from recruiting illegal immigrants and absconders.
