SHARJAH // Social media is being used to sell illegal fireworks in Sharjah.

A police crackdown and awareness campaign against the use of fireworks during Ramadan has revealed that people are using the platforms to conduct their business.

Police said the individuals were using Instagram and other social media to attract buyers. They would then use couriers to deliver the fireworks.

Residents have been warned about the dangers of using fireworks, especially children, and police say they are also a nuisance to neighbours.

The crackdown on illegal storage and selling of fireworks is intensifying, Sharjah Police said.

Residents are being encouraged to report any promotion or use of fireworks by calling the police operations room on 901 or the toll-free number 800151.
