DUBAI // A married couple assaulted two police officers who came to their house to arrest them for prostitution and running a brothel, a court heard.

Police captain AA, 30, told Dubai Criminal Court that on September 18, 2011, he was part of a team that went to arrest Emirati woman H S, 30, and her husband Y S, 37, an Omani.

Police had received a tip off that the wife lured men to the house for sex, then the husband would later blackmail the customers, he said.

When officers arrived at the house, H S opened the door.

“She screamed at her husband to come to the door, and when he did both defendants started assaulting me,” said A A.

R A, 31, a police corporal, said he was also assaulted by the couple.

“I heard screams coming from inside the house so I rushed in and saw A A lying on the floor. I tried to stop them but was also assaulted by the two defendants,” said R A.

He said that he was punched repeatedly in the face, kicked in the back and scratched on his hands.

A police report stated that A A suffered pain and permanent numbness in his waist and thigh because of the assault. R A was left with a back injury.

It is unclear why the case has taken three years to come to court. There was also no information in court records on the status of the prostitution charges.

The defendants were not present in court to enter a plea. A verdict is expected on February 8.
