A crush of starstruck Bollywood fans wait for their heroes at a local mall; tourists visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque as dusk falls on the eve of Eid Al Adha; a French band plays under the dome at Louvre Abu Dhabi - the city's latest venue.

These striking images are among the thousands of street scenes, portraits and live events shot by The National's staff photographers over the course of 2017. They are a visual record of the vibrancy of life in the UAE and allow us to look back on a lively year in sharp focus.
