Pakistani man drowns at Sharjah beach

ABU DUBAI // A Pakistani man drowned and a compatriot was rescued after getting into trouble in the waters off Al Khan beach in Sharjah on Sunday.

The operations room at Sharjah Police was notified at 6.30pm of two incidents at the popular beach. On arriving at the scene, rescue and ambulance teams found A K, 38, was dead, while M R S, 36, was in a serious condition. He was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital for treatment, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.

Sharjah’s beaches have recently witnessed a number of drowning incidents, including one involving a Kuwaiti man in his 70s. The emirate’s police blamed a lack of public awareness, the victims not knowing how to swim, failure to abide by the safety instructions on the breach, swimming in high surf and not paying attention to changes in the weather.
