ABU DHABI // A Filipina and a Syrian man charged with murdering her elderly husband in the family's Bani Yas home will wait until Dec 23 to discover their fate. The presiding judge adjourned the case at the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court on Sunday after hearing defence statements for the woman, ALG, 39, and man, AAA, 42. In June the two were charged with murdering MHN, 71, with whom she had three children, although police claim DNA tests revealed the Syrian fathered two of them. AAA has denied any involvement in MHN's death or having an affair with ALG.

Police said in July that ALG had called them after her children found MHN dead in bed. She told them her husband had gone to sleep after taking his diabetes medication and the children found him dead the next morning. Police said they found blood on the man's face and knees and concluded he had been strangled, and that laboratory tests showed traces of the victim's skin under his wife's fingernails.

Outside the court, ALG's defence lawyer said his defence focused on the lack of material evidence of a murder, and the "unknown" fingerprints found by police on the alleged crime scene. rruiz@thenational.ae
