ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi TV has launched what it hopes will become a leading sports broadcaster in the region.
The unveiling of Yas at the President’s Endurance Cup – which was the first event the channel covered – affirmed 2015 as a year of development and excellence, said Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, the National Security Adviser.
He said there was a need for a channel that focused on traditional sports.
Besides covering local and international sports events, Yas will also broadcast documentaries, contests and news.
Its daily shows include Flash News and Lifestyle, which is focused on health, nutrition and fitness.
Morning shows such as Marhaban Al Alam will host celebrities and guests to discuss traditional sports.
Al Hatheera, a weekly show, will look at the sport of falconry, while Al Rakkad will showcase Arabian sports of Emirati and Gulf origins.
Al Fares will centre on horse racing, while Al Qudra will cover endurance racing. Water and marine sports will be featured on the weekly Al Serdal.
"Yas cultivates sports by showcasing them on a global platform for today's audiences," said Mohamed Ebraheem Al Mahmood, chairman and managing director of Abu Dhabi Media, publishers of The National.
