RAS AL KHAIMAH // A new law to regulate construction in the emirate has been passed.
Under the new rules, issued by Sheikh Saud bin Saqr, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, architects are now responsible for the safety of a building 10 years after its completion.
Construction permits can be withdrawn from a site if work stops for six months without a justifiable reason.
On the recommendations of a technical committee, the municipality chairman can order the demolition of buildings that pose a danger to inhabitants, passers-by or the environment.
