DUBAI // An employee at the National Identity Authority who took drugs at his workplace has been sentenced to four years in jail by the Dubai Criminal Court.

The 39-year-old Emirati was arrested at his office on February 7 this year after police were tipped off he was in possession of and had taken drugs at work.

An officer with the anti-narcotics department told the court that he was part of the arresting team.

“We headed to his workplace in Al Muhaisnah at 1pm and he willingly handed over drugs he had in his wallet,” said the officer, adding that more drugs were found in the defendant’s car.

“He told us he got them for free from an Omani man,” added the officer.

The defendant confessed to charges of possessing 10 grams of hashish and 75 tablets of Benzhexol when he appeared in court earlier this month.
