RAS AL KHAIMAH // A museum to commemorate the life of Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, former ruler of Ras Al Khamaih, has been opened at the home of a citizen in the emirate.

The museum, established by Mohammed Ahmed bin Hajar Al Shehhi, was opened by Sheikh Saqr’s successor, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, on Tuesday.

Sheikh Saud praised the heritage items during a tour of the museum, which was set up at Mr Al Shehhi’s home in Al Seeh.

The state news agency Wam reported that it was an important part of preserving the national and historical heritage of the UAE and an integral part of the process of social and economic development.

Sheikh Saud said such individual initiatives “confirm the growing cultural awareness among members of the community of the importance of safeguarding the ancient heritage and preserve it from extinction and the transfer of these national heritage from one generation to another as one of the main tributaries of the Emirati identity”, Wam reported.

Mr Al Shehhi stressed that the museum is meant to honour Sheikh Saqr’s “march of giving and goodness and construction achieved at the national level” and in RAK.

The opening was also attended by Sheikh Abdul Malek bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Special Advisor to the Ras Al Khaimah Ruler, and a number of senior officials.

Sheikh Saqr died in 2010 after more than 50 years as ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
