NEW YORK // The UAE has signed a deal with the United Nations to take part in the Associate Experts Programme, which will see expert Emiratis gain experience by working for UN.
The UAE is the 29th country to join the programme and the deal was signed on Friday at a reception hosted by the UAE mission in New York, state news agency WAM reported.
It was signed by Wu Hongbo, UN undersecretary general for Economic and Social Affairs, and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Permanent Representative to the UN.
Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Valerie AmosValerieAmos, UN undersecretary general for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, were also present.
The partnership will see Emiratis work for the UN “in defined terms, usually one to two years” before potentially being offered a full-time job with the organisation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of International Cooperation and Development are working together to develop a selection process to choose candidates from UAE Government entities.
Candidates for the scheme are expected to be young people with masters degree and one or two years of experience.
