The value of items confiscated or found at Dubai International Airport last year was estimated at Dh1.17 million, with left items worth Dh930,000 and seized items Dh240,000.

Lt Col Hamad Al Mazrouei, director of airport security at Dubai Police, said the left items were those prohibited onboard or things abandoned by passengers due to excess luggage.

The items will be sorted and sent to warehouses before being auctioned online.

He said the seized items were divided into two categories: those with a material value that were sold at auction, and the in-kind items such as clothes and foodstuff that were donated to charities. The items donated by airport security last year totalled 123 tonnes. Dubai Police provides an online system, in Arabic and English, for reporting lost property or handing over found items.
