Fitness fans heading to TrainYas on Tuesday night at Yas Marina Circuit will be joined by members of the Armed Forces, paratroopers and a marching band.

In celebration of Yas Marina Circuit’s new role as the official training ground for the Army’s cycling fitness initiatives, members of the community will enjoy the band and the spectacle of paratroop landings.

As part of the move, which will also see troops train during GoYAS, the female-only night, 200 camouflage branded bikes have been donated to Yas Marina Circuit by the GHQ Armed Forces for the purpose of training army personnel.

Brig Khalifa Al Hameli, Commander of the Armed Forces’ Military Physical Training Centre, said: “Fitness is of the utmost importance to any fighting force, and this new initiative is an ideal way to encourage health and fitness among the UAE’s military.

“The move demonstrates our commitment to providing an accessible platform for fitness, not only to the Army but to the wider community, and we look forward to establishing and building further this important partnership.”

This year, the TrainYas and GoYas fitness programmes encouraged weekly crowds of about 4,500 people walking, running or cycling around the 5.5 kilometre F1 circuit.

“The agreement with the Armed Forces to use our facilities as their official training venue complements the efforts of our existing health partners Daman, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in encouraging active and healthy lifestyles within Abu Dhabi,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, chief of Yas Marina Circuit.

“It also provides recognition of the circuit’s commitment to promoting health within the Army and wider population. Promoting health and fitness is a hugely important part of what we offer.”
