DUBAI // An alleged member of a gang that posed as policemen to break into a house and rob a family has appeared in court.
Dubai Criminal Court heard that Pakistani A T, 26, and seven other men knocked on the door of H H on May 3, pretending to be police officers.
Records show that two of the attackers were carrying wooden sticks and assaulted the 27-year-old Pakistani and his brother.
“It was nearly 10am when eight men came into the flat then locked the door with the key,” H H said.
He said that one of the men, who was wearing a Dubai police hat and was carrying a knife, slapped him and punched him in the chest and left eye.
Another attacker punched his brother, H H said. They were ordered to sit on the floor while his wife was in the bedroom.
“They searched the house for anything valuable and when they did not find anything they asked for my wallet and stole Dh3,500 in cash,” he said.
“I told them I wanted to use the bathroom then used my phone to call police,” H H’s wife said.
By the time police arrived, the gang had left. A T was arrested when found hiding in the building. He denied an armed robbery charge. A verdict is expected on Sunday.
