DUBAI // A young man who stabbed a nightclub bouncer for denying him entry has had his jail sentence for attempted murder upheld.

After being told he would not be allowed in the club, M H, 20, from Saudi Arabia, walked to a nearby supermarket and bought a knife, then returned to stab Egyptian B A, 26.

“The defendant came to the club in Bur Dubai and was drunk. When he told me he was 20, I didn’t allow him to enter,” the victim said.

He said the Saudi swore at him then left the hotel.

“Shortly after he came back and stabbed me from behind in my shoulder,” he said.

The attacker also threw an iron bar at guards.

Egyptian receptionist A A, 38, said he saw two security guards escorting the defendant outside the nightclub.

“I heard M H swearing and the hotel manager ordered me to call police,” he said.

“Minutes later I heard the nightclub cashier scream. As I turned around towards her I saw the defendant pulling the knife out from B A’s back, then he stepped backwards and tried to stab him again.”

The injured bouncer pushed his attacker back before his colleagues apprehended him.

In Dubai Criminal Court last May, M H denied the charge but was sentenced to a year in jail. Having lost his appeal he will be deported after serving his term.
