SHARJAH // A man who robbed a woman at knife-point in front of her home has been jailed for a year.
The Asian man followed the Chinese victim to the entrance of her building in Al Nabla last year before he pulled out a knife and demanded that she hand over her purse.
“He pulled out a knife and asked for my purse,” said the victim. “I gave it to him fearing that he would hurt me or stab me with the knife.
“I tried to scream for help. However, no one was close by.
“There were Dh600, US$50 and Chinese currency, my bank card and official documents in my purse.”
Police arrested the defendant and he was identified by the victim at a police station.
He denied a charge of robbery when he appeared at Sharjah Criminal Court last month.
He was sentenced to one year in prison and will be deported after completing his sentence.
