DUBAI // A man jailed for attempting to murder a friend told the Dubai Criminal Court that he was only handing the victim a knife and did not intend to harm him.
Prosecutors said that on February 26 last year N L, 32, from Vietnam, stabbed L D, whose nationality and age were not provided and who has recovered from his injuries.
“I was passing by near the work site at the Dubai [International] Financial Centre when I heard the defendant and the victim arguing,” Malaysian site manager W S, 39, said. “I worked it out between the two of them and each one went on his way.”
W S said 15 minutes later he heard the victim scream and when he went to check he found L D standing with his hand on his chest, bleeding and pointing at N L.
“I called the police and an ambulance then I returned to the defendant to ask him what had happened but found that he had fled,” said W S.
N L told the court he did not intend to kill L D. “I was just handing him the knife, which he asked for. Besides, he is doing well now.”
N L was sentenced to one year in jail and fined Dh2,000.
He will be deported after completing his sentence.
