DUBAI// A 27-year-old Egyptian groped a woman’s behind as she was getting out of a lift, a court heard.
The 23-year-old victim was returning to her flat in the Chinese Cluster in International City at around 8.30pm on March 16.
“When I got into the lift there was an Arab man, he stood behind me,” said the Chinese national. As she got out of the lift on the third floor, he grabbed her behind, she said.
“I tried to catch him but he pushed me and ran away,” she said.
The woman reported the incident to police who identified the man from CCTV camera footage and arrested him.
The footage showed him enter the lift and, as the woman walked out, he stretched out his arm towards the lower part of her body. The camera also recorded the woman hitting the man and him running away.
He denied a sexual assault charge when he appeared at Dubai Criminal Court and said he only tried to hold the woman’s hand.
A verdict is expected on July 28.
