DUBAI // A man who was arrested during a mass brawl has been convicted of threatening to bite a policeman and infect him with Aids.
M S, 28, an Emirati, appeared in the Dubai Misdemeanours Court on charges of issuing threats and damaging property.
The case began when another Emirati, S A, 35, was having lunch with a friend, A O A, 28, also Emirati, and his wife, M A, 25, from Morocco, on February 26 of this year.
S A told the court: “When we were done eating, we got in the lift and there was a man who started looking at my friend’s wife in a bad way and tried to get closer to her.”
He said three other men then got into the lift and one of them began flirting with A O A’s wife and tried to pass her his mobile phone number.
“My friend then stopped him, so he threatened us and said that he will show us what he can do. We didn’t respond because we didn’t want any trouble,” he said.
S A said as he got into his car to drive away, the man from the lift returned with about 15 of his friends.
“They pulled A O A and I out of the car, along with his wife M A, and started assaulting all of us. I managed to reach to a pocket in the car where I keep a gun, then threatened them with the gun to scare them off and have them stop assaulting us. Then the police arrived,” said S A.
A O A told the court: “When we got into the car, the man from the lift showed up with a lot of men, pulled us out of the car and assaulted all of us.
“People around came to the rescue and two of them turned out to be CID officers.”
S A, A O A and M A suffered multiple bruises in the assault.
M S, who was one of the attackers, was arrested and taken to the police station along with the three victims.
M S resisted arrest, damaged the police car when he was put inside and threatened to bite one of the officers and give him Aids, saying he suffered from the virus.
“He showed a lot of resistance and assaulted me as I tried to arrest him” said K A, 26, an Emirati policeman.
M S was fined Dh6,000 for issuing threats and ordered to pay Dh350 for the damage to the police car.
S A was convicted of possessing a pistol, 50 bullets, and a stun gun and was fined Dh6,000.
He was also fined Dh1,500 for illegally consuming alcohol.
The court ordered that his weapons and bullets be confiscated.
