DUBAI // A 35-year-old jobless man has denied stealing water sprinklers from a landscaped area along Sheikh Zayed Road.
The Dubai Criminal Court was told that Pakistani MR was part of a gang that stole the sprinklers worth Dh3,220, belonging to Dubai Municipality, in 2012.
Policeman HA, 25, testified that he received a report about the theft on August 4 that year.
“Investigations led to the arrest of a number of men. They confessed to carrying out the crime at 3am that day,” said the policeman.
He added that the men used hammers to break the ground around the sprinklers then steal them, with that causing damage to the watering system. The men confessed during questioning to selling 140 stolen sprinklers.
When MR was arrested last year he was referred to court on charges of damaging and stealing the water sprinklers, which he denied.
A verdict is expected on October 29.
