ABU DHABI // Police have arrested a man for robbing 11 shops in Abu Dhabi.
The suspect, a 30-year-old Indian, is accused of breaking into shops through windows and using a hammer to open cash drawers. Abu Dhabi Police received several reports robberies at stores in the capital, said Col Ahmed bin Zaitoun Al Muhairi, director of the capital’s police directorate.
Police said the man was caught in Al Khalidiyah and resisted arrest. He is also accused of issuing a bad cheque and has been reported as a runaway by his sponsor, said Col Al Muhairi.
During investigations, police say, the man confessed to stealing valuables and Dh50,000 from shops that included clinics, beauty salons and mobile phone shops.
Col Al Muhairi urged shop owners to keep money and valuables in a safe place and be cautious. He also called on the public to report suspicious activity near commercial shops and residences.
The suspect has been referred to legal authorities for investigation.
