ABU DHABI // A man on trial at the Federal Supreme Court for insulting the Federal National Council with obscene remarks is mentally challenged, according to a medical report ordered by the judge.
Ayoub Salem, 37, appeared in an online video in October last year saying he would promote criminal and obscene acts if elected to the FNC. The video was shared on social media networks during the campaign period.
The accused denied the charges brought against him at State Security Court last February and said he was not aware of his acts.
A medical report ordered by the judge showed that the defendant had limited mental abilities and was disoriented and easily influenced.
Public prosecution had ordered a warrant for the arrest of Salem when the video was circulated in October.
On Monday, the case has been adjourned to May 9 for Salem’s lawyer to prepare his defence.
