DUBAI // Three Indian maids have been charged with drugging their employer to rob her of valuables and cash.

M A, 27, denied the theft charges at the criminal court on Monday. Her fellow accused, B A, 31, and M B, 30, remain at large.

Proesecutors said that on December 16 last year, their Emirati employer, MK, 44, a businesswoman, had withdrawn Dh20,000 to pay for an electricity bill.

“I was talking to the maids and telling them that the bill was really high and they should stop wasting energy and water,” said M K.

“I had the money as well as Dh15,000 extra to go to the Naturalisation and Residency department in order to renew the visa of M A, so I asked one of the maids to prepare me a cup of tea before I went.”

She said she began to feel dizzy after drinking the beverage, then woke up hours later to find the maids had gone.

“I asked my fourth maid and she said she only saw them around 10.30am taking some bags outside, which they claimed were garbage,” said M K.

The woman called the maids but their mobile phones were switched off.

She then discovered that the keys to the house, keys to a beauty salon owned by M K, a Samsung TV set, an S3 Samsung mobile, a camera, four boxes of crystal cups and the cash was missing.

A verdict is expected on May 5.
