DUBAI // A jealous maid who sprayed chilli pepper into the eyes of a love rival before stabbing her has been jailed for seven years.
D P, 28, from Nepal attacked N S, 32, from Sri Lanka, because she believed she had stolen her Pakistani boyfriend.
The victim told Dubai Criminal Court that about 5.30pm on April 2 last year, she was returning to her home in Silicon Oasis where she saw her attacker and another woman, N B, in front of the building.
The Nepali, who lived in the same building, asked to use the victim’s phone but she refused.
The two followed her inside before spraying chilli pepper in her eyes.
“They dragged me by the hair all the way to the lift and took me up to the 8th floor while beating me,” said the victim.
She was then dragged to the stairwell where N B bit her on both arms while the maid pulled a knife and stabbed her in the head, chest and stomach.
She said no one responded to her screams, but she managed to escape and run into her own flat. She locked herself in and called her sponsor for help before she fainted.
The victim woke up to find herself surrounded by police officers and paramedics.
T A, a Yemeni policeman, said he was taken by a security guard to an apartment on the 7th floor.
He said he saw blood in the corridor and hair that had been pulled from the victim’s head during the struggle. “I saw the victim on the floor bleeding heavily, her face and hair were covered with blood. She was also crying very hard,” he said.
The victim told the officer the name of the attacker and where she lived. When the maid opened her apartment door her clothes were covered in blood, the officer said.
The victim told police she thought the maid was drunk at the time of the attack.
During questioning, the maid confessed she had tried to kill N S with a large kitchen knife because she had stolen her Pakistani boyfriend.
