Low visibility crashes kill 2
Despite efforts by authorities to clear the roads of sand deposited during storms this weekend, low visibility took its toll.
Two people died and more than a dozen were injured in six separate accidents in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and on the motorway to Al Ain.
Two Bangladeshi men died when their car hit a metal road divider on the Sharjah Madam Road yesterday and rolled, police said.
"A driver died on the scene and the passenger died on the way to hospital," said a police spokesman.
Meanwhile, a tanker crashed into a car on Emirates Road on Saturday evening and the drivers of both vehicles were injured, according to Dubai Police.
The number of accidents peaked on Friday when the sandstorm was at its worst. Two cars collided on the Dubai Bypass Road in the morning and seven people were injured. Three people were injured in a separate crash later that day.
In another accident, a car skidded and overturned on the Jebel Ali-Al Ain road, injuring the driver and his wife.
Abu Dhabi police also reported an accident on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain motorway on Friday.
