DUBAI // Two lorry drivers were caught in possession of more than four kilograms of heroin that they intended to sell, a court heard.

The Pakistani defendants, aged 35 and 28, were arrested in a sting operation on May 15 after police received a tip about them.

A police officer told the court they received information that defendants were looking for a driver to carry the drugs to Kuwait in return for Dh48,000.

“I was assigned to pose as a truck driver and contacted one of the defendants. When I met with him at the Fruit and Vegetables Market, I asked him if the drugs belonged to him,” the officer said.

“He said they belonged to a man in Pakistan and that his role is to store them and help ship them to Kuwait.”

The officer said the defendant told him to wait for orders from the man in Pakistan, who later called him to inform him that once he crossed the border, a man in Kuwait would arrive to pick up the drugs.

The officer arranged to meet the defendant two days later to take the drugs. When he arrived on the arranged date with the other defendant, both were arrested with the drugs in their vehicle.

The pair were found to be on drugs after an examination. A medical report stated they had consumed morphine. They admitted charges of consumption and possession of drugs.

A verdict is expected on October 11.
