Local handicrafts on display in Al Ain’s Souq Al Qattar

ABU DHABI // Local handicrafts that date back generations will be on display at the first National Traditional Handicrafts Festival in Al Ain’s Souq Al Qattar from October 23 to 29.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, the festival aims to revive, preserve and teach traditional crafts to future generations.

“The festival is an opportunity for craftspeople to meet and demonstrate their handicrafts skills, while heightening the importance of the preservation of these skills to Emirati society,” said Dr Nasser Al Humairi, director of TC Abu Dhabi’s Intangible Heritage Department.

A series of displays, a traditional Bedouin dance contest, preparation of traditional food and Arabic coffee has also been planned . The contests will run daily from 5pm to 10pm.

Participants must be over 15 years old and should present handicrafts using local material.
