Largest cereal gathering earns Dubai three new world records

More than 1,350 people helped shatter the world record for attendance at a cereal breakfast during an event organised by Kellogg's.

Residents of Dubai set three world records yesterday – before finishing breakfast.

Two records were smashed when more than 1,350 people sat down to eat together at a 300-metre-long table – the largest number of people eating cereal in one place and the world's biggest breakfast table.

The previous record for breakfast attendance was 986 people, and the table beat the previous record-holder by 90 metres.

A new record was also set at the event – the biggest cereal box, which was 284 centimetres long, 112cm deep and four metres high.

The records will be added to the 110 already held by the UAE.

The event, organised by cereal makers Kellogg's, took place at Dubai Marina Mall.

Gina Gelvero, from the Philippines, got up at 4.40am to take part.

"I live in International City so I had to take many buses to make it but it was worth it," she said. "The event was amazing."

Rowena Venancio, also a Filipina living in Dubai, said the event highlighted the importance of healthy eating. "It is a community event and it is important because it makes a mark in history," she said.

Stalls were set up to serve cereals prepared in different styles from countries such as Lebanon, Russia, India, Egypt and the Philippines.

"We do not eat it like this in the Philippines but it was nice," said Ms Venancio. "In the Philippines, we eat rice three times a day, but here we have more stuff, like corn flakes in the morning."

Rachel Fellows, the director of communications and brand public relations at Kellogg's, said: "It is the most important meal of the day and often the most neglected.

"We're passionate about building awareness of breakfast and making it fun, and the record attempt felt like a good way to do both.

"This was a family event and having breakfast with your family should be part of your daily routine."
