ABU DHABI // A Kuwaiti Muslim Brotherhood politician has been sentenced to five years in jail for insulting UAE leadership.
Mubarak Al Duwailah, who was tried at the Federal Supreme Court in his absence, was found guilty of insulting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
In December last year on Al Majlis TV, Kuwait’s official parliament channel, Al Duwailah claimed Sheikh Mohammed had taken a “personal and aggressive stance against the Brotherhood”.
He said Sheikh Mohammed was “hostile towards the Sunni doctrine which is a pretext for Sunni extremists to threaten his life”.
During the previous hearing, Judge Mohammed Al Jarrah Al Tenaiji played the video where the defendant had publicly insulted the Crown Prince.
Al Duwailah failed to appear at any of the hearings throughout the trial.
