DUBAI // A man threatened a married woman after she ended their relationship, a court heard.
Syrian M A, 25, is accused of sending text messages vowing to expose their affair.
He also sent blasphemous messages and threatened to send private photos to her relatives, prosecutors said.
The woman said she befriended the Syrian online while she was having problems in her marriage. After they patched things up, she wanted to cut ties with him.
But the Syrian was angry and threatened to send private photos to her relatives. He had copied the images and her address book from her phone, the Criminal Court was told.
Emirati policewoman N K, 30, said: “When she wanted to end her affair with the defendant he threatened to use her pictures against her and demanded that she remain in a relationship with him.
“She told me he called her mother and told her that he was in an affair with her daughter, then called her cousins and told them she was a bad woman.”
He also sent numerous threatening and blasphemous messages, the woman said.
She said she changed her number and the Syrian tried to get her new one by putting on a feminine voice, calling up her friends and claiming he was a female acquaintance.
The woman eventually told her husband and the police.
The Syrian denies blasphemy and issuing threats.
The case was adjourned until January 12.
