DUBAI // The owner of a chain of jewellery shops in the Arabian Gulf and India and his daughter are being held in Dubai on separate fraud charges.
A police source said five complaints were made by banks against Indian M M Ramachandran, chairman of Atlas Jewellery, after cheques worth Dh50 million bounced.
He said that another 15 complaints were made against his daughter, who works at an insurance company, for dishonoured cheques worth almost Dh10m.
“The arrest of the daughter, who was detained on August 18, and the arrest of the father, on August 23, were not related,” the source said.
He said that Mr Ramachandran had lived in the UAE for 20 years.
