DUBAI // A husband told a court on Monday that his wife was having an affair with her boss after seeing them together at her home.

D A, 26, from Saudi Arabia and S  A, 45, an Emirati, appeared at the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours accused of having an intimate relationship outside of marriage. D A was also charged with drinking alcohol without a licence.

D A’s husband, G A, 34, said that at 11.30pm on December 31 last year, his sister saw his wife in her Mercedes car near the Crowne Plaza hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.

“My sister followed the car until they reached my wife’s home in Mirdif. I immediately went to the house and parked outside. I saw the car, and called the police,” said the husband.

D A said she had married her husband in 2010 in Saudi Arabia. When they moved to the UAE they began to have marital problems, so in April 2012 she filed for divorce and custody of their baby daughter.

She denied an affair with S A, saying he had been a close family friend for many years. “He is like an uncle to me,” she said.

D A said S A had visited her on a number of occasions but had never entered the house before. “He used to drop off some groceries and baby milk that I requested from him whenever I had trouble buying them because I didn’t drive. This was the one and only time he entered my home.”

She claimed her husband had her arrested out of spite due to a custody battle over their two-year-old daughter.

“He wants to tarnish my reputation so that he can get full custody of our daughter,” she said.

The defendants denied the charges and requested the court allow them time to hire lawyers.
