Investigators have started to identify aircraft wreckage recovered from the FlyDubai plane crash site in Russia, UAE authorities have said.

The investigation into the cause of Saturday’s crash will continue on Friday and focus primarily on aircraft flight control components, the General Civil Aviation Authority said.

On Thursday, FlyDubai announced it was retiring flight number FZ981 as a mark of respect to those the passengers and crew members who died in the crash.

Meanwhile, the team is continuing to examine flight and weather data, reported Wam, the state news agency.

“Analysis of the flight and voice data extracted from the recorders is ongoing to determine the aircraft technical performance, and crew control inputs and performance,” said Ismaeil Al Hosani, assistant director general of the authority’s Air Accident Investigation Sector.

Saif Al Suwaidi, the authority’s director general, warned about speculation as the enquiry continues, calling it “unhelpful” and saying it can be “upsetting for the relatives of the victims”.

FlyDubai flight FZ981 exploded upon impact after a failed second attempt to land amid strong winds and poor weather conditions at Rostov-von-Don airport.

All 62 onboard, including 55 passengers and seven crew members, died in the crash.
