DUBAI // An immigration official who falsified computer records to show that 2,060 Asian tourist visa holders had left the country when in fact they were still here illegally had his five-year prison sentence reduced to one year on Tuesday.

The appeals court upheld a Dh50,000 fine imposed on M A, 32, an Emirati who worked for the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department.

Court records did not show if he benefited financially from his crime.

In November, the Dubai Criminal Court found him guilty of gaining illegal access to data, forgery and use of forged official documents between January 2010 and August 2012.
