ABU DHABI // A man who was convicted of attacking his wife said social media and “bad friends” had brainwashed her into making up the charges.
A I, an Emirati, told the appeals court that it was actually his wife who assaulted him by throwing him against a car and breaking his finger and injuring his arm.
He said he had been married to the mother of his four children for a long time, and they had love and compassion for each other.
“I work in the police and I know the law why would I attack her?” he asked.
He presented a medical document in court to prove the injuries he sustained when his wife attacked him. He said he did not report it earlier becuase he loved her.
He said she had left his house and moved to her parents’, where they are also turning her against him.
“You know nowadays how bad friends are, and the Blackberry Messenger and Facebook, they push women to file for divorce, they ruin (marriages),” he said.
A verdict will be announced on February 18.
