DUBAI // Hundreds of police took part in a Flag Day ceremony at Dubai headquarters in a show of allegiance and loyalty to the country and its leadership.
The event, attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, was organised by police and Watani, which was launched in 2005 to promote the UAE’s culture and identity.
More than 2,000 children donned the colours of the country and formed a large flag.
Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina said Flag Day was a reminder to future generations of their Emirati heritage and history.
“Dubai Police is honoured to celebrate this day, especially in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed,” Gen Al Muzeina said.
“Raising the flag will instil in today’s generation and generations to come the UAE’s history, giving them a sense of belonging, especially since their age did not permit them to be present when the emirates united.
“Thank God, we here in the UAE are in a comfortable situation and are lucky to have everything available to us, from medical treatment to schooling.
“Every single person is happy on this day, because raising the flag today is a reminder of the flag that we raised in 1971, when the UAE was established.”
