Vets who practice medicine without a valid licence will be imprisoned for a minimum of one year and fined up to Dh200,000 after President Sheikh Khalifa issued a federal law on Sunday.
All veterinary medicine and support services must register to be issued a licence from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
The update to the law aims to regulate veterinary medicine and support services, bring services in line with international standards and safeguard the health of livestock and other animals in the country.
Establishment owners who employ a veterinarian or support staff without a licence will be fined between Dh10,000 and Dh200,000 while the court may decide to close the clinic, terminate its licence, and confiscate its equipment and supplies.
Those who practice veterinary medicine without a licence will be face the same fine and may be imprisoned for a minimum of one year.
Those who establish a veterinary facility without licence will be imprisoned with a fine of Dh20,000 to Dh200,000, the same penalty applies should a licence be obtained illegally.
The law also punishes practitioners who conduct experiments or research on animals without a permit from the ministry with imprisonment and a fine ranging from Dh50,000 to Dh500,000.
Exports of animal diagnostic samples are also prohibited without a permit from the Ministry and offenders will face imprisonment and a fine of Dh50,000 to Dh1 million.
In addition, a fine of Dh10,000 to Dh100,000 will be issued to any veterinarian who fails to report epidemic diseases to the Ministry.
The Minister of Climate Change and Environment may initiate disciplinary sanctions against a veterinary medicine practitioner should they breach any of the laws.
The sanctions include a warning, closure of the practice for a period not exceeding one year, or withdrawal of the licence.

When to go: You can climb Kili at any time of year, but the best months to ascend are January-February and September-October. Also good are July and August, if you’re tolerant of the colder weather that winter brings.
Do not underestimate the importance of kit. Even if you’re travelling at a relatively pleasant time, be geared up for the cold and the rain.

When it is unveiled at Abu Dhabi Art, the Standing Tall exhibition will appear as an interplay of poetry and art. The 100 scarves are 100 fragments surrounding five, figurative, female sculptures, and both sculptures and scarves are hand-embroidered by a group of refugee women artisans, who used the Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery art of tatreez. Credit Score explained
What is a credit score?
In the UAE your credit score is a number generated by the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB), which represents your credit worthiness – in other words, your risk of defaulting on any debt repayments. In this country, the number is between 300 and 900. A low score indicates a higher risk of default, while a high score indicates you are a lower risk.
Why is it important?
Financial institutions will use it to decide whether or not you are a credit risk. Those with better scores may also receive preferential interest rates or terms on products such as loans, credit cards and mortgages.
How is it calculated?
The AECB collects information on your payment behaviour from banks as well as utilitiy and telecoms providers.
How can I improve my score?
By paying your bills on time and not missing any repayments, particularly your loan, credit card and mortgage payments. It is also wise to limit the number of credit card and loan applications you make and to reduce your outstanding balances.
How do I know if my score is low or high?
By checking it. Visit one of AECB’s Customer Happiness Centres with an original and valid Emirates ID, passport copy and valid email address. Liv. customers can also access the score directly from the banking app.
How much does it cost?
A credit report costs Dh100 while a report with the score included costs Dh150. Those only wanting the credit score pay Dh60. VAT is payable on top.
