The annual Pink Caravan ride will be held from March 16 to 25 this year, said Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed, the wife of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed, Ruler of Sharjah.
More than 100 skilled riders will kick off the campaign in Sharjah and make their way through all seven emirates to raise funds for cancer research and perform on-the-spot screenings. The tour is scheduled to end in Abu Dhabi on March 26.
There will be lectures and workshops on how to perform breast cancer self-examinations and information on how to support cancer patients.
“Breast cancer endangers the lives of many people, irrespective of gender, nationality and race, as its physical and psychological effects pose a grave threat to cancer patients and their families and the entire community,” said Sheikha Jawaher, also the founder and royal patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society. “This is why we want this campaign to pursue its mission of raising awareness about the impact of this disease and the need for early detection and regular examinations.”
Nearly 30,000 people across the country have been offered free breast cancer screenings through the Pink Caravan over the past four years.
