RAK fines 1,300 food establishments for not meeting health regulations

RAS AL KHAIMAH // More than 1,300 food establishments in Ras Al Khaimah were fined and six others warned during Ramadan for not following health and safety regulations.

The RAK Municipality public health department said 1,368 establishments and shops were fined after 406 inspections were carried out at 1,502 establishments and shops, according to Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.

Twenty-five kilograms of food was destroyed after being deemed unfit for human consumption, said Shaima Al Tunaiji, director of the department.

The municipality also tested cattle before and after their slaughter, and collected food samples and drinking water samples to ensure they were fit for consumption.
