FUJAIRAH // Residents are calling for improved emergency services at Fujairah Hospital. They say there is a need for a specialised, advanced emergency centre to meet the growing population.

Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister newspaper of The National, relayed the citizens' demands to the director of Fujairah medical district, Dr Mohammed Abdullah Saeed.

“Dealing with incidents and emergencies will witness a transformation in the level of services, not only in Fujairah, but in all northern emirates, once the construction of the specialised trauma centre on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is complete.”

He said the new hospital – one of the President’s initiatives – would improve all services.

The existing trauma and emergency ward is being renovated and expanded. Capacity has been increased from 18 to 29 beds, with additional recovery and treatment rooms.

An outside hall will assist in classifying cases, and there are two rooms for short hospital stays (less than 24 hours).
