Emiratis complain of spoiled food for sale in Sharjah

Emiratis have complained about spoiled food in Sharjah and called for stricter control over food outlets in the emirate.

Zubaida Abdullah, an Emirati who lives in Abu Dhabi, said that when she got home after shopping in an outlet in Sharjah, she realised the cheese she bought was rancid. She said when she returned it, the staff asked for the receipt, which she had lost.

Khouloud Al Ali said she bought rotten tomato sauce and Fatima Mohammed said she found worms in a box of eggs.

Shaza Al Mualla, director of the Public Health Department at Sharjah Municipality, said inspections on food outlets were routine and unannounced, and that each programme lasted 45 days in which all aspects and details were targeted.
