DUBAI // The Emirates Down Syndrome Association has submitted a bid to host the World Down Syndrome Congress, which is organised by Down Syndrome International every three years.
Eid Thani Harib, chairman of EDSA’s board of directors, said there has been great progress in the services, systems and laws supporting people with disabilities in the UAE, adding that an application to host the international event in 2021 was submitted to organisers.
A voting ceremony will be held on July 31, 2016 in London to reveal which nation is to host the World Syndrome Congress in 2021.
The event will address the latest research and issues related to Down syndrome, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with the condition. There will also be discussion groups that residents and specialists can participate in.
The last congress was held in India in 2015, and the next one is scheduled to be in Scotland in 2018.
