Coronavirus: UAE records highest number of cases for second day with 1,431 new infections confirmed

The number of new Covid-19 cases in the UAE on Wednesday surpassed the previous highest number recorded in a single day.

The 1,431 new cases passed the 1,315 recorded on Tuesday.

A further 1,652 patients were give the all-clear as the recovery tally rose to 101,659.

Two more people died after catching the virus. pushing the death toll to 450.

The latest cases were identified after an additional 103,132 daily tests were conducted.

More than 11.2 million tests have been carried out to date.

The UAE has reported 110,039 cases since the outbreak began.

It is the third time this month that  UAE case figures have hit a record high after 1,231 new infections were announced on October 3.

New infections have been above 1,000 for 13 out of the 14 days in October.

Recovery rates, meanwhile, have also been on the rise, ranging between 1,001 and 1,769 during October.

The large number of daily recoveries has helped drive down active cases from above 10,000 recently to 7,930 as of Wednesday.

The UAE has made a concerted effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, at home and abroad.

Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine will be tested in the UAE, the government said on Monday.

The UAE was chosen as a partner for Chinese drug maker Sinopharm's Phase-3 trial in July.

Officials have also taken measures to contain the virus in the Emirates by introducing strict safety measures, such as the largely mandatory wearing of face masks in public places and the implementation of physical distancing regulations.

Authorities carry out daily spot checks to ensure businesses are complying with safety rules.

On Tuesday, inspectors from Dubai's Department of Economic Development issued fines to an embroidery shop and a local tour operator in Naif for failing to ensure employees were wearing face masks.

Another eight companies were given warnings for not displaying physical distancing signs.
