ABU DHABI // Children as young as 18 months are aware of their parents’ emotions, a leading psychologist will tell the capital in a talk on Monday.

Dr Ross Thompson, from the Department of Psychology at the University of California, United States, will speak to parents about their relationships with their children and how to handle their emotions.

“Children are constantly looking at what people do, with an effort to try to understand it. So rather than parents thinking that their child is only consumed by its feelings, parents interacting with their children will lead to fantastic discoveries about what goes on in the mental world of people,” he said.

Dr Thompson’s talk is part of a parenting series organised by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation.

It will begin on Monday at 5pm in the Manarat Al Saadiyat, and Tuesday in Al Ain City Municipality Theatre.
