Orphans and children with thalassaemia or cancer received Eid gifts this week in hospitals across the country as part of an initiative for Zayed Humanitarian Action Day.

The initiative, held under the patronage of Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed, was launched in Abu Dhabi at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City on Saturday, followed by Dubai, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, and ended in Al Ain.

Media personalities and artists also participated, according to Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister publication of The National.

Sheikh Rashid sat with children as they listened to stories from artist Hassan Balhun, and participated alongside them in competitions and games before distributing gifts to the children.

Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed praised the initiative and said that the UAE’s wise leadership is keen to provide orphans and children suffering thalassaemia, a blood disorder, or cancer with the best care.

“The initiative aims to reactivate the charitable work that Sheikh Zayed was involved in and to emphasise humanitarian community values and raise awareness about the importance of humanitarian action in bringing all of society together,” she said.

Forty-five children received visits at SKMC, 28 at Khalifa Hospital in RAK, 20 in Dubai, 20 in Fujariah and 20 in Al Ain.
