ABU DHABI // Twelve penalty notices have been handed to hair and beauty salons for health and safety breaches.
Abu Dhabi Municipality carried out inspections on 232 salons as part of a clampdown on hygiene.
Three offences were reported while five earlier notices were followed up. They were mainly related to the use of expired or counterfeit materials, uncleanliness or poorly maintained tools.
The team found 36 expired items. The authority also received two public complaints about hair and beauty salons in the city.
Salon workers were told by the municipality to adhere to all safety and quality requirements to protect their clients. Workers must also obtain health fitness certificates, wear uniforms and maintain good appearance and personal hygiene.
The authority said that it was conducting training courses for beauty professionals to “secure the highest protection and ensure safety and health for all community members”.
Training is mandatory to obtain licences and permits for salons.
The municipality said the campaign would continue with follow-up inspections.
