Workload has steadily increased for Ahmed Al Mansoori

The FNC member has taken part in discussions on policy, media, education and pensions.

ABU DHABI // Ahmed Al Mansoori’s work on the council has steadily increased each year.

The past year, he headed the Islamic and Awqaf and Public Facilities committee to the General Authority of Islamic Authority and Endowment to review their work.

He stressed to officials that as Expo 2020 was expected to bring an influx of visitors, it was necessary to increase efforts to promote the country’s “civilised society with moderate Islamic values”.

In the council’s public sessions, Mr Al Mansoori has taken part in discussions on policy, media, education and pensions.

Most recently, he said the Government should pay attention to the country’s senior citizens.

He said senior citizens, including those with disabilities, could provide a “positive and active” role in the workforce, which would improve their well-being, provide them with extra income and benefit the community.

“Early retirement should not stop them from contributing to their growth and development, to their families, to society, unless they don’t want to,” he said at a public FNC session earlier this year. “The choice should be theirs and the authority should provide them with platforms to be productive.”

He said the pension authority should study the matter.

Mr Al Mansoori has also added his input in a number of discussions unrelated to his field.

During a debate on the Child Rights law, he said the law could be officially named so, but referred to as Wadeema’s Law unofficially after members insisted on stripping it of its original name to protect the family of the eight-year-old girl who was tortured to death by her dad and his girlfriend.
