ABU DHABI // The new child affairs prosecution unit will act as a deterrent to those who sought to cause children physical, emotional or psychological abuse, said Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
She said the body would also seek the harshest punishment for those who infringe on the rights of children, reported state news agency Wam.
Sheikha Fatima’s comments follow directives of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to establish a child prosecution service in Abu Dhabi to develop procedures to protect children up to the age of 18 as per the new Child Protection or Wadeema’s Law.
Sheikha Fatima also said this would provide an integrated, legal framework for child protection.
