ABU DHABI // There will be no public holiday during the three days of mourning for the 45 Emirati servicemen who died in Yemen.

Schools, ministries and government entities will remain open during the period, officials have said.

The Ministry of Education, however, announced that all schools would allocate a time during which pupils and teachers would reflect on sacrifice the soldiers had made.

Other activities, however, were affected by the mourning period.

The start of the campaigning for the Federal National Council elections, which was due to begin on Sunday, was postponed.

The 341 candidates’ official electioneering period will instead start on Wednesday, said the National Election Committee.

Some sporting events were put on hold out of respect for the servicemen.

Arabian Gulf Cup games that were scheduled to begin on Sunday were postponed, a Pro League Committee representative announced.

Dubai Sports Council said all competitive activities would be suspended, while a press conference to announce the Jiu-Jitsu calendar of the upcoming year had also been postponed.
